The main course literature consists of downloadable PDFs, written by Per Sjösten.
It is possible to borrow the book Acoustics, by Leo L. Beranek. To do so, you need to leave a deposit. Contact Gunilla or Lars to arrange this.
Available on this web site are also: The electroacoustics and ultrasonics problems & solutions manuals, two lists of equations ("EAU Useful formulae & ATA Useful formulae") and the lab spec.
Course material:
Sjösten - Electrical circuits and analogies (Lectures 1 & 2)
Sjösten - Introduction to microphones (Lectures 3 & 4)
Sjösten - Part II on microphones
Sjösten - Introduction to loudspeakers (Lectures 5 & 6)
Sjösten - Loudspeakers, Part II (Lectures 5 & 6)
Sjösten - Chapter on radiation
Sjösten - Unfinished chapter on small room acoustics
Problems and solutions manual:
Problems and solutions to electrical circuits
Solutions to electrical circuits problems
Journal papers
This is extra reading for those of you who are interested in loudspeaker design.
Thiele - Loudspeaker alignments
Small - Vented box systems part IV
Other books
Useful formulae
EAU - Useful formulae (VTA141)
ATA - Useful formulae (VTA135)
NB: Equation and chapter numbers in the list of equations refer to Mendel Kleiner's book: Audio Technology & Acoustics (same numbers in the Swedish edition).
Exercises 1, 2, & 3 - including recommendations on what problems you should solve on your own.
Matlab function to plot array directivity
The course contains one compulsory lab exercise:
1) An electrodynamic loudspeaker, its electroacoustical analogy, and its sound radiation properties. Diffraction.
A schedule for the lab-work will be posted at the department. The lab notes contain important information and homework that should be studied prior to lab attendance.
Lab times
Will be posted...
Lab 1 : A loudspeaker and its sound radiation properties
Exams for this course are written tests. An exam is likely to consist of 6 mathematical or essay problems. A correct solution is awarded 5 points, which gives a maximum of 30 points for the test. A passing grade is 12 points.
The date for the regular exam will be decided on during the course.
Tools you are allowed to use during the exam:
Do not forget to specify the assumptions done in your solutions to the problems, to motivate the steps taken, and to give units when relevant!
