About
Nolan is an artist and researcher whose work reflects a broad range of influences and mediums. His research focuses on the dynamics of collective behavior, synchronization, and rhythmic perception in distributed systems.
He has premiered work and research at a number of spaces including the Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires (MAMBA), Pioneer Works (Brooklyn), L’HOSTE Art Contemporain (Arles, FR), and the Danish National Museum of Music (Copenhagen, DK). Residencies include IRCAM, MassMoCA, Cité Internationale des Arts, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art. As a Danish Fulbright scholar in 2020, he worked with the Sound and Music Computing department at Aalborg University Copenhagen.
He holds degrees in saxophone performance, Electrical Engineering, and received a MFA at Columbia University. Nolan completed his PhD in Computer-Based Music Theory and Acoustics at Stanford University where he studied at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). He is currently a post-doc at the Division of Applied Acoustics.
